Samera “Sammi” (Plumley/Simpson) Venner, 58, passed away peacefully Saturday, Nov. 29, 2014, following a battle with cancer. She was born July 21, 1956, in Oneida, N.Y., and moved to Oklahoma with her family in 1964.
Samera worked for both the Norman and Moore Police Departments as a dispatcher. Although confined to a wheelchair during the latter part of her life, her good humor — and sarcasm — helped her handle everything that came her way.
Samera and her current husband, Bob, have been happily married since 2001, after he moved here from England.
Samera was known for her big heart and her weakness for orphaned animals. She was adopted by her first protector, Shiloh — a favorite dog, while in her 20s. Following Shiloh, were Brandy, Huggy, Nikki, Matilda (the wallaby), and many other birds, dogs, fish, gerbils and a horse. At her passing, she had a variety of birds and dogs, including Shadow, Bear and Scruffy. All will greatly miss her.
Samera was preceded in death by her father, Carl Plumley.
She is survived and missed by her husband, Bob Venner; daughter, Summer (Rob) Radzanowski (State College, Pa.); her granddaughters, Lorelai, and Juliette and her son, Sean (Norman); her mother, Arlene Brown (Oklahoma City); brother, Terry (Dianna) Plumley (Harrah); sisters Lisa (Ray) Grinnell (Selkirk, N.Y.) and Dawn Chamness (Oklahoma City); and many nieces and nephews.
Services will be 4 p.m. Friday at Calvary Chapel of Norman. There will be an opportunity to share memories of Samera.
The family requests that a donation be made to the American Cancer Society in lieu of flowers.

While I'm saddened by Samera's passing, it is nice to know that the cheerful smile and warm heart I knew from '74 carried on throughout her life. My deepest symathy to her family (and many pets). Rest in peace, Samera.

I've thought of Samera many times over the last few years - and wondered how she was doing. I am experiencing a pang of regret at her passing that I never followed up those thoughts with a phone call. I've been trying to remember which reunion it was where she and I had a long long conversation. Perhaps 30th? She was confined to a wheel chair following a horrible car accident, I believe she said on Mother's Day, turning into Thunderbird State Park. I never pass that spot without thinking of her and how blown away I was by her positive attitude and sense of humor she displayed in the face of that adversity. She's one classmate who I'll remember for my whole life. RIP, Samera. I hope to see you again one day.
