Gregory's Story

Self-assurance and the gift of gab were the defining traits of Gregory Keith Edge. These qualities, tempered by a good heart and generous spirit, carried him through 61 years, until he quietly slipped away February 1, 2018.

Above all else, Greg loved his son Adam, 29, and the purposefulness of being a dad. He had an extraordinary talent for making things grow, sprinkling his magic on all things green, leafy and flowering. Greg was a good cook, kept a spick and span house, wore lightly starched dress shirts and expensive boots, and always had good hair. Everyone who knew Greg understood that he liked to celebrate. He was a hard worker and had successful careers in commercial construction, residential landscaping, life and long-term care insurance sales, and in oil and gas as a right-of-way agent. He was a free-thinker who expanded his mind through music, reading, lively discussion, meditation and prayer. When faced with cancer, Greg chose to fear not, put his trust in God, and surrender to a deep sense of peace.

Born on February 24, 1957, in Shawnee, Oklahoma, he was the third son of Elizabeth and Jodie Edge. He enjoyed lifelong friendships with his brothers and sister: Steve (Norman), Chris (Norman), Mark (Houston), and Sherri (OKC). The family attended St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Norman, and Greg was a member of the parish boy scout troop. He graduated from Norman High School in 1975, lived in Houston for 10 years, and was married to Johna Adams Edge in 1984. In 1987, the couple moved to Norman and welcomed the arrival of their son, Adam Lee.

Greg accomplished some great things in his life. He started college when he was 30 years old and graduated from the University of Oklahoma four years later. He studied business administration, was an excellent student, and had a passion for learning Japanese. He was a single parent for many years and considered Adam to be the most important part of his life. In 2016, Greg chose to go to treatment and stop drinking. At the time of his passing, he had 18 months of sobriety---18 months of gratitude, growth, discovery and reinvention. Greg will be missed by all who loved him.
