A four-year veteran of the Oklahoma Highway Patrol died early Saturday morning in a head-on collision with a newspaper delivery truck, authorities said. Vernon Keith Kuwitzky, 30, who was off-duty, died at 4 a.m. on U.S. 75 in

Tulsa.Tulsa police officer Mike B. Eubanks said both vehicles were left of center and one driver apparently was taking evasive action to avoid the other when the crash occurred. Oklahoma Highway Patrol District Commander Ron Hula said Kuwitzky joined the patrol in 1984 after graduating from the patrol academy. Hula said Kuwitzky has been stationed in Tulsa since he joined the patrol.

 

Services are set for 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Alameda Church of Christ in Norman with Eddie Stolz officiating.

Entombment will be at Rest Heaven Mausoleum, Oklahoma City, under the directions of Mayes Funeral Home, Norman.

He was born Oct. 22, 1957, in Norman.

Mr. Kuwitzky worked as an Oklahoma Highway Patrol Trooper and was a member of the Alameda Church of Christ and the Oklahoma Quarter Horse Association.

His wife Jennifer (Shepherd), is a former Sapulpa resident.

Survivors include wife Jennifer; parents Mr. and Mrs. Carl Scott Kuwitzky of Norman; and brothers Carl Scott Kuwitzky Jr. of Richardson, Texas, and Christopher Clay Kuwitzky of Norman.
