I grew up in the same neighborhood as Mike and I remember moving there when I was in 5th grade and he and Burt Hene called me "Hickey" not for marks on my neck but I guess for my Southern accent! They would tease me horribly! I also remember many "boy/girl" parties at his house and being so scared of my first kiss that was bound to happen at one of those parties.....
I also grew up in the same neighborhood as Mike (and Susan McCormick) and went to the same parties. We all had such a great time! My fondest memory about Mike was the year (I think 8th grade) where all our friends that ate lunch together put me up to asking Mike to a stupid Sadie Hawkins dance...BIG mistake! In front of everyone - I bravely walked up to him and asked him if he would like to go to the dance with me...without any expression on his face he said one word "no" and walked away. OK so maybe I was a late bloomer!
We met years later at something for NHS, I walked by and overheard Mike ask (Bert Hene I think), who I was - he said "that's Sue Heidt from down the street, don't you recognize her?" Later that night, Mike walked up to me - started a conversation which ended with "would you like to have dinner with me?" To which I laughed and said "no"... I'm sure he didn't get it, but that's ok! We actually did have dinner and had a great time... :)
