Scott was one of those attracted to the cool geekiness (or geeky coolness) of the NSHS Science Conference Room.  I only knew him in passing, except for one painful day: July 26, 1969, the day of the first Great Chattahoochee River Raft Race.  Scott joined four of us on the Civil Air Patrol's homemade raft as a relief paddler and beer finagler (though we didn't know that at the start).

We entered the "Hooch" below Buford Dam on the east bank.  The raft was stable but ungainly, requiring constant paddling by four of us to keep it even slightly ahead of the pack. This we did for over twenty miles, finally leaving the river at the revised finish line of Jones Bridge near sunset.  Scott did his part.  We would have won our division, except that we were declared ineligible by virtue of our being "under age."

Don't know who recruited him -- I suspect Dave Henry or Bill Foard, veterans of Tuszynski's Raiders -- but he stayed with us during the whole miserable trip and kept his sense of humor.  I have to like him for that and I'm sorry he's gone.
