EDWARD ROZAR THE SON OF GLADYS ROZAR WHO TAUGHT SPANISH AT NSHS.
ED WAS IN THE CLASS OF 1967 WITH ME. HE BECAME AN MD AND I SAW HIS OBITUARY IN THE AJC SOMETIME AFTER 2000 . I CANNOT RECALL THE YEAR. I BELIEVE ED DIED OF CANCER

I understood that Edward was a renowned heart surgeon (in . . . Minneapolis?). Alas, he contracted HIV and later AIDS through his exposure to a patient's blood during surgery, in the early days of the AIDS epidemic before the virus was understood and appropriate precautions were adopted to prevent infection. For so long as his health permitted, he campaigned, including through television appearances on key talk shows, for greater physician safety to avoid AIDS infection.
He demonstrated courage throughout the loss of his ability to use his surgical prowess to help others, and then to face his own death. He was survived by a devoted wife and, I believe, five children.
