David Jaicks OBITUARY

On Sunday, July 2, 2017, our brother, friend, and beloved family member David Agar Jaicks passed away from a heart attack following a master’s swimming event. He was 59. Dave was born in Evanston, IL, to Mary C. Jaicks (née Bull) and Wilson A. “Woody” or “Wid” Jaicks, Jr. and was raised by his parents in Northfield, IL. He attended New Trier High School in Wilmette, IL, and Northern Michigan University. He loved his dogs, the solitude of the out-of-doors, woodworking, and writing poetry and short stories, having published six collections of his works. He moved to Great Barrington, MA, in the late 1980s to feel close to nature in the Berkshires. He took pride in creating beauty for others as a landscaper and in keeping others safe as a lifeguard, jobs that also kept him connected to the community. He faced many obstacles throughout his life, including enduring his mother’s death when he was only a young man and facing other family illnesses, which he did with patience, compassion, and a strong sense of responsibility. Dave lived life most humbly with a self-effacing demeanor tempered by an uncommon depth of spirit, courage and generosity, and he had a very wry wit. He will be especially missed by his brother, Wilson A. “Bill” Jaicks, III of Berwyn, PA; special friend, Lynn; dog, Scoot; and many extended family members in the Midwest near his childhood home, as well as on the East and West coasts. Memorial gatherings will be held in Great Barrington and in Northfield at dates and times to be announced. Donations in his memory may be made to The Devereux Whitlock Center of Berwyn, PA.
