My brother Robert (Class of 1971) passed away May 16, 2000. He was 47 years old and left behind 2 sons, 2 brothers, and our dad. It is truly a wonder he lived as long as he did. The kid definitely lived to burn the candle at both ends. He is missed.
Robert was one of the good guys, always so humble, and helpful to the less athletically gifted. I remember running cross country with Robert and Hartley. At Ann Morrison park in a meet one time, the gun went off, the sprint began, I kept wondering when everyone was going to slow enough that I could keep them in sight, after about a minute, I couldn't see Robert for the curvature of the earth, damn that boy could run. This was after the wreck that messed up his legs so badly, I have often wondered how good he would have been without that wreck, cause damn, he was great with it. He was so proud of being a farmer, and he was good at that too, he died on his tractor, I think he would have wanted it that way. He is missed by all who knew him.
I also remember ROBERT as a kind and loyal friend. I was impressed with his freindliness and loyalty even more after I married and left Nyssa. Robert became friends with my father and they spent many hours, he on his tractor and my dad in his pickup, parked along the road just talking. I think all of us lost a special friend when Robert died.
