From what Dan Glein told me, Pat was killed in an industrial accident in Burlington within a couple of weeks after graduation; he leaned an aluminum ladder across some power lines that he was told were "dead". I will look at papers from that era and find out and post it here but we're looking at June or July of 1978. He was a great guy and any lady from anywhere would have been lucky to be with him, God rest his soul (I think his soul is still partying though !!!!)

Actually, it was almost a year later. He had met a wonderful gal (can't remember her name) at SVC. If memory serves me right they were married for only a few months when this incident happened. The funeral was difficult to attend since Pat and Dan were so close. Pat had a heart of gold and always was laughing or cracking jokes. If it wasn't for him I wouldn't have 3 fantastic children and 3.5 incredibly wonderful grandkids. Pat was the one that got Dan & I together. Thank you Pat for all the fun and laughs you brought into my life.

Pat and I grew up together once again, in capehart housing. He was a wonderful guy. He died in late 78. I remember how shocked i was because we were all so young, and barely graduated. We used to ride bikes together when we were kids and go over jumps. He would go over it no matter how high we made it! Thanks for all the great memories Pat! Julie Jackson Wiggins

Just to clear up any misunderstandings (the rumors that finally made it to me were nowhere near the actual story) here is the WNT article reporting Pat's death:

OH graduate killed in electrical accident

Patrick Gentry, an 18-year-old Oak Harbor man, was pronounced dead on arrival at the Skagit Valley Hospital Tuesday, Sept. 11 after receiving a severe electrical shock when an aluminum ladder he and his co-worker were carrying struck a hot wire.

The 1978 Oak Harbor High School graduate was painting for a contractor on a site two miles north of Stanwood when the accident occurred.

First officer on the scene, Stanwood Police Chief Wade, said it was possible a gust of wind came up when the men were carrying the ladder, which could have caused it to sway and hit a ground wire and a hot wire at the same time.

Gentry was not immediately killed at the scene. Wade said emergency procedures brought Gentry's breathing back until he was place in the ambulance.

Gentry's companion, Luigi Gallino, 26, of Stanwood suffered electrical burns to his feet and is listed in satisfactory condition at Skagit Valley Hospital.

Gentry is the son of Harold and Carol Gentry, formerly of Oak Harbor. He was married to Sandra Golliver July 6 of this year.
