Enjoying life. With the same guy for 20 years, married for 11 of them. Became a nurse in 2001 and I love it. I love taking care of people. I spent 5 years as a pediatric nurse in the hospital setting. I now work in a multispecialty office with the best group of docs and nurses around. I love having the weekends & holidays off with the family & I can truly say I haven't dreaded going to work a single day yet. Everyday is different and challenging but we have so much fun doing our jobs that it doesn't seem like work!
My son, Michael, is a gung-ho military type and plans on joining the Navy in 2010. He dreams of being a Navy SEAL and is currently in the Navy Sea Cadet program which has given him alot of great opportunities. He did a Marine boot camp in Iowa & loved every minute of it over last Christmas break. Over this past summer he made a few more trips to Iowa and Ohio doing Homeland Security training, Military Police training, and Field Operations where he obtained expert marksmanship honors and relished being sprayed with "OC" spray (Yes, he is a bit nuts!) . He has become friends with many SEALs thru this program & is going to Virginia in June for 10 days to train with retired SEALs who run their own private Navy SEAL "experience". Can you tell I'm proud?? Honor, courage, commitment -- this kid lives that motto everyday, lives in his UDT shorts and trains with 40lbs. weights in his ruck sack. He certainly doesn't get that from me!
Mya on the other hand...
Mya is a little princess, a daddy's girl & just turned 8 on New Year's Eve. She is funny all day long except when being a drama queen. She loves to tell jokes and wants to be a science teacher some day. If it's pink & sparkly, she's all over it. I'm gonna be in trouble with this one :)
Cutting school to go to the beach is still a favorite. I'm still best friends with Andra Ross (Kosik) Class of '89 and every now & then we'll reminisce about the days of TP'ing and egging. Surfing on the hood of my dad's Monte Carlo down Rich Quinlan's street. It's a wonder we never got arrested or hurt doing some of the things we did. Kids these days don't do enough of that stuff. Everyone is talking on MySpace or gaming online. No one is hanging out in thier friend's basement trying to figure out who deserves some TP in their yard. Ahh...memories, too many to remember..
I was saddened and shocked at some of the names of classmates who have passed on, especially Liz Houlihan. I have fond memories of 4th grade at St. Gerald's with her. I was a goody-goody and I remember the first time I ever got in trouble and had to separate desks was because Liz was making me laugh so hard I almost peed myself! Then I got in more trouble because I was sitting in the corner at my desk by myself still laughing because of her.
I'm glad to see so many of my classmates are having a great life and doing well. It is far too short to waste even one minute.
