The alumni office has learned of the passing of Evelyn Louise "Evie" Smith who died on March 4, 2019. Evie came to Transylvania from Oak Ridge, Tenn., and was a member of Phi Mu. She was named Miss Transylvania in 1975. Evie graduated with a B.A. in elementary education and went on to earn Master's degrees at the University of Tennessee and Auburn University.
She was a teacher, a counselor and an advocate. Evie spent the better part of her career, until her retirement in 2009, at the Kentucky School for the Deaf. Her love for the children there was inspirational.
Evie is survived by her husband of 37 years, Chuck Keiser, her son, Stith Keiser, her daughter, Rebecca Keiser, and by her siblings, Harwell Smith III and Wayne Smith.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 9 at the Presbyterian Church of Danville, Ky.
