Charlie and I played football in back yards growing up and continued at JJHS & ORHS until I quit the team after 10th grade (regrets). Some funny memories of Charlie - in first grade we were having a "burping contest" (gross I know but we were kids) Charlie won the contest but lost his lunch! That was the end of those contests! Then in third grade we would swing really high on those old really tall Pine Valley swing sets, we would pretend we were paratroopers and jump out of the swing at the highest point. That ended the day Charle broke his arm upon landing. No sawdust or rubber playground mats in those days!
I heard that Charlie lost his life a few years after HS when his orange VW Beetle flipped upside down in a ditch near the top of the overlook coming in from Solway Bridge area. I think of Charlie every time I pass that spot coming into Oak Ridge. He was a good friend.
