"David Eugene Mayes, 67, of Cary, North Carolina went to be with his Lord on Friday, September 2, 2022. While he was born on June 2, 1955, he was born again when he was 19 years old accepting Jesus as his Lord and Savior (Romans 10:9-10). He confessed that he was a sinner and received forgiveness and new life from Jesus (John 3:14-17, 1 John 1:9). David later studied for the ministry at Appalachian Bible College and pastored for twelve years. He also worked at various power plants including Shearon Harris in New Hill, North Carolina. David is survived by his devoted wife Kathy; his son Jason and daughter-in-law Hyeonsu along with grandchildren Nathan, Andrew, and Ian; his brother Steven and sister-in-law Susan, and their children David and Erin; and many other close friends and relatives. He is preceded in death by his parents, Bertram Mayes and Nancy Evans."
David was one of my bestest buddies all through Cedar Hill Elementary. David, his brother Steve, Bobby McCalister and I played a lot of touch football on East Malta Road in front of their homes.
I'm sorry to have lost touch with David after high school, and sad that he has left this life. But what a wonderful testimony of a life well lived! Will be remembering David in Christian love.
I have such great memories of David-- skiing on Norris lake, making each other laugh in Biology II, hammering nails ar our vacation cottage, scuba diving in Honduras, the list goes on.
