Sorry to see Richard "Dick" Cross is no longer with us. I knew Dick fairly well as he was on Drill Team and fellow Officer in ROTC. He was also active on school newspaper, and yearbook... photography being his speciality and hobby. He lived in Montclair next door to Penny Raimondi as I recall.

Back in the day, Dick and I used to hunt Dove and Quail in the Oakland Hills, he with his 410 shotgun, and I with a single shot .22 We were successful too. Had many a fine meal cooked by his mother as a result.

As an aside, and to illustrate the difference between those days and now...Dick and I would often run into Oakland Police Officers patrolling near Skyline Blvd. Instead of being arrested, guns confiscated, attending rehab and getting psychiatric care, the OPD used to ask how many birds we had bagged, and tell us to have a great day.

The same was true of Oakland Fire Department where we used to stop in at the Round-Top (now Sibley Park) Station. These guys used to feed us lunch, try out our guns, and tell the Fire Lookout Tower we were in the area and not to bother with us.

Dick was truly a good person, always ready to pitch in when others were reluctant.

Richards' father worked for UPS, and the last time I bumped into Dick (some 30+ years ago) he too was working in Management at UPS. We were going to get together soon, but the half hearted attempt at doing so never materialized.

Rest in Peace old friend.
