For those who do not know, Steve was an heir to the Levi Straus (sp?) fortune as was his father. Steve lived off Harbord Drive in Montclair, which is one of the reasons he owned a fairly new Impala Chevy in High School, while most of us either walked or took the bus to and from Tech. For me, it was a long walk approximating 6 miles, but I did it often.

I hope his life was pleasant and full of further fortune.

My best memories of Steven were his sense of humor and simplicity.  He was truly "just one of the boys" despite the silver spoon with which he was born.  I count it a shame he did not get to live to a ripe old age (like we are trying to do).  I think of him often when I recall my own flying experiences and feel a small part of our world has been diminished by his loss.  Bless you, Steven!  You have been and continue to be missed.

The earlier comment about Steve being one of the boy's was spot on. I knew Steve and some of his family. I knew that they seemed well off but did not know that he was one of the heirs to the Levis Strauss Co. Steve enjoyed fishing and hunting a lot and on one of these trips in approximately 1965 or 66, he was returning from (I believe) a fishing trip to Baja California in a private plane with others. The plane crashed and there were no survivors.

For some reason, Steve wanted me to be the guy that "tuned" his Impala, the tri-Power carberation, the "4 on the floor" was in his estimation the badass ride of the school (correct). In auto shop we'd be allowed to take it for a test ride after we  supposedly "tuned" that bad boy up. Needless to say, I loved driving that machine, crusing Hy's Drive Inn and just naking that monster fly down the road.....I have so many great memories of Steve, he was a fun guy and always ready for a good time, no matter what it was....miss you Steve, we will meet again!

Your engine tuner.....
