I am sad to learn that Winnie is gone. She was one of the sweetest people... ever.

She evidently passed shortly before our 50th reunion of cancer.  I found this obituary response by one of her students.

I'm just shocked, numbed, overwhelmed to have learned about her passing. I've just learned about it a few minutes ago through CCSF Scholarship Donors page. I'm overwhelmed and deeply sadden by the news that comes three years too late. Last night for the first time I would contact her to thank her for the positive influence she had while I was attending CCSF. She was by the most caring professor I ever had. For that, I'm grateful. She was so kind-hearted and understanding and of course, very helpful in my learning; she had provided one the most fulfilling and most memorable experience a student could ever wish for. I loved her smiles. I remember when I left to join the Marine Corps, Prof Leong even searched for me. The caring she had obviously gone beyond the confined space of a classroom. She was (still) is one of the only two professors that at CCSF that had my highest respect and that won over my heart completely. I'm heart broken...I was hoping to meet her and thank her and let her know how much she had impacted my life. The amount of caring she had for her students (for me personally) touched my heart and soul. At the moment, as I'm typing, tears gathered in my eyes, and I feel my heart drowning and my soul trembling and crying. Just sad, really sad...no words can express my emotion. Three years too late. She was like an angel, a second mother. She was one of the kindest human beings I had ever crossed path; I'm and will be forever grateful. I'm numbed. May her soul attain peace and joy and bliss for eternity. Professor Leong, you will always have my heart. Thank you.

I am saddened to learn of Winnie's passing. She definitely was a very sweet, thoughtful person.

Thank you, Irene, for finding and sharing such a heartfelt tribute to Winnie from one of her students. I hope Winnie's family have read the obituary comments, and I hope that Winnie herself knew how importantly she had touched and affected her students.

She had a beautiful life!

I'll always remember Winnie.  She was smart, yet humble.  She

was down-to-earth, sincere and unselfish.  I am glad I knew her.
