In Memory

Billijo Marshall (Pyle)

Billijo was one of J. Edgar Hoover's worst nightmares, a hard core Communist with a capital C. She was kind and soft-spoken. When I wrote my senior history paper on the Young Communist League in the 1930's, she was tireless with her help, putting me in touch with comrades in Cleveland who opened their homes and their hearts and sometimes their heartaches.

Billijo was struck down early by MS, but she managed to get herself to our 25th reunion and closed her reunion scrapbook entry with. "Good luck, take care, don't let the fakers get to you." Words for our time.  (Submitted by Matt Rinaldi)

In freshman year I asked her about her family, and she said "My father is a farmer, and a student of history."
