If I am remembering correctly, Mark created a business of taking people to the Cleveland Airport, something we students appreciated very muchm because the official limo ran infrequently, and was expensive. I'm not sure how Mark had a car on campus, but he  took several people in his car on those rides. I wish I could remember what kind of car it was, but it seemed antique, even in 1969-1970. For one of the airport rides, there were several of us in the car, and Mark was keeping his eye on the odometer.  When it reached 200,000, he pulled off the road somewhere in Lorain or Cuyahoga County, and we all got out and gave a shout-out to the dear old car. We may have held a toast. I sense that Mark may have opened a bottle of something and poured it on the hood.  Maybe we waved streamers.  I wish I could remember the details, which have faded over at least 53 years....  Perhaps someone else can provide them.  What I do remember is that we had a good laugh.... and we all caught our planes too!  He told that story to many people from then on....

Mark drove a 1959 Chevy, the one with "cat eyes" for rear taillights. I competed with his transport service in 1971-1973 so I remember it well. He could take 4 people and baggage in the big Chevy and he worked more slots than I did. I do remember the route to this day to get to the airport and I learned every word to Maggie May.

Mark "MC" Malonek drove the "Flying 59" Chevy for airport trips until he bought a '65 Econoline Ford van with an Earl Schwab blue paint job nicknamed "The Racoon". He later raced at Lorain County Speedway in a 1962 Chevy, #79, named Dr. Gonzo after his honors thesis in which he compared Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas to Moby Dick as an attempt at the next great American novel.

Thank you, Roy and Louis, for your comments.  I'm pretty sure it was the '59 Chevy with the "cat eyes" that he drove on that special airport trip. Thank you both for supplying the details. - Nancy
