CLEARWATER — A 57-year-old man died after being struck by a car while crossing Gulf to Bay Boulevard on Friday night, police said.

Jeffrey L. Bickel of Clearwater was crossing Gulf to Bay Boulevard near S Belcher Road at about 9:50 p.m., police said. He was struck by a 2015 Chevrolet Cruze, driven by Tatianna Williams, 20, also of Clearwater.

Bickel was taken to Bayfront Health St. Petersburg hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

The driver was headed east on Gulf to Bay. Police said Bickel crossed the road from north to south in the middle of the block. But he not use a crosswalk and instead walked "into the path" of William's car.

The crash closed lanes on Gulf to Bay between Belcher and Old Coachman Road for hours Friday night into Saturday.
