Horace Gene White (better known as Buddy) was born August 9, 1939, in Brown County to Horace and Delora White.

Buddy passed away on July 15. 2010, in Round Rock, Texas.

His family moved to Odessa, Texas in 1947. Sports were his passion. His high school and college football coach, Hayden Fry, was very influential in Buddy's life and continued to encourage him in the last month of his life. Buddy played in the Gator Bowl and the Gotham Bowl before he graduated from Baylor in 1963.

He served six months active duty in the Marine Corp and seven years in the reserves.

Buddy and Pam Newton were married in 1960; they had two daughters, Mary Kay and Melissa Ann. He lived in Eldorado, Texas where he operated his own business, HG Automotive, for 30 years before moving to Georgetown, Texas with his wife, Ann, in 2007.
Buddy officiated high school and college football games for 30 years before golf took the place of football as the passion of his life.

His Main Street Baptist church family, golf buddies, and dog, Daisy, contributed to a wonderful retirement until lung cancer interrupted his life in 2008. He was playing golf five days a week again when a brain metastasis ended his days on the golf course.

Buddy is survived by his wife, Ann; two daughters, Mary Kay White and Missy Sims, her husband Wayne; and their two daughters, Lauren and Shelby. He has six sisters, Doris Hood, Clois Threadgil, Joy Harvey, Bettie Caddell, Cissy Smith, and Melba French; and one brother, Tommy White. His cousin, Nadra Arnold; and nephews, Barry Smith, Larry Hood; and niece, Sherry Robison, were special family members. Ann's son, Neil Grant and his family, and her daughter, Tina White and her family, share their mother's grief. Buddy's Odessa High School Class of '58 brought him much joy in the last months of his life as well as in his youth.

Pallbearers are Dennis Keller, Darrell Hudson, Charles Lance, Bill Hammond, Ted Ludlow, and Fred Adsit.
