James Dean "Buzzy" Kershner (1940-2011)

ODESSA: James Dean "Buzzy" Kershner, 70, of Odessa, passed away on Monday, March 7, 2011, in a local hospital.

Buzzy was born on June 4, 1940 in Texon, Texas, to Orville Dean Kershner and Bonnie LeMeilleur Kershner. Buzzy was the oldest of their three (3) sons. He spent his childhood in Goldsmith and later moved with his family to Odessa. He attended Odessa High School.

Buzzy went to work in the early 60's at the Headlee Gas Plant in Odessa.

It was subsequently acquired by Getty Oil Company and later by Texaco. Buzzy spent his entire career at the Headlee plant, the operating area around the plant, and at well locations. He worked in different positions, including as an operator and mechanic. He was well known in the Odessa area and within the Getty and Texaco community around Odessa.

He was loyal and generous and loved spending time with his friends and family. He enjoyed working on cars and his motorcycles. He served in the U. S. Marine Corps and was a member of Crescent Park Baptist Church.

Buzzy was preceded in death by his parents, his son Dean Kershner, and a brother Thomas Stephen Kershner.

He is survived by his brother John Timothy Kershner of Longview, Texas, his aunt Louise LeMeilleur of Kerrville, Texas, his close friends Ken and Cindy Tarr of Midland, Texas, grandchildren, and a host of other family members and friends.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 12, 2011, at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home, 601 N. Alleghaney Ave., with Rev. David Miller officiating.

Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
