Passing of OHS 1957 classmate “Lonnie Taylor,” husband of Jerry Pat ODowdy Taylor, OHS’59.

”Lonnie William Taylor November 29,1938-May 03, 2021”

“Lonnie peacefully left his earthly home to join his Creator with his family surrounding him with love and prayers for him to rest in our Father’s arms. Lonnie’s parents Mildred and Harry Taylor preceded him in death. Surviving family members include his wife of 59 years Jerry Pat ODowdy Taylor, his eldest son Pat Taylor and wife Heather Taylor, his youngest son Jim Taylor and wife Beth Taylor, his brother Larry Don Taylor, his cherished grandchildren Bryce Patrick Taylor, Emily Elisabeth Rose Taylor, Christian Garrett Moore, Kobi Grant Moore, Madison Lyn Taylor, and Michael Patrick Taylor. Many special friends and cousins were the topic of discussions in his final months with fond memories and best wishes for each.

Lonnie grew up in Odessa, Texas where he attended Odessa High School, go Broncos, and Odessa Junior College. Lonnie became an Eagle Scout during his high school years. Lonnie served in the US Army during the Cuban Crisis. After serving his country he worked in Odessa and then moved his family to the Gulf Coast where when not working he became involved in volunteering his time by serving on City Council in Shore Acres; volunteered for local and area swim teams in various capacities; served on the church board; and always helped at his wife’s school functions. After retiring from the city of LaPorte Lonnie enjoyed working in his wood working shop making unique gifts for friends and family members, and no one will ever forget his fish fries by the bay. Lonnie’s greatest pleasure was gathering with his family. He made our world a better place, and now he lives in good health awaiting each of his family and friends when God calls them home. May God’s Grace embrace each of you as it did Lonnie.”
