Kim Sweatt
June 1, 1960 - March 28, 2024
Kim Sweatt, a man who lived his life at the same speed as his beloved Formula 1 races, has completed his final lap on this earthly circuit. Born on June 1, 1960, in the small town of Kermit, TX, Kim revved through life's twists and turns until his peaceful pit stop on March 28, 2024, in Midland, TX.
Kim's journey began as the son of the late Rual Moody and Linda Sweatt Nunez, who knew he would be cared for when adopted by Louie and Helen Sweatt, who have predeceased him in death. He was also the stepson to the late RV Nunez, all who are no doubt co-piloting with Kim on his celestial road trip.
With a wit as sharp as his taste in cars, Kim often joked that he graduated from "Harvard on the hill," but his Associates in Liberal Arts from Odessa College was no laughing matter. He prided himself on being the Director of Sales for a natural gas company, where he was known to fuel both the business and the occasional office prank.
A man of many titles, Kim was the Capitan of the Scooter Patrol, a title self-bestowed and unanimously unchallenged. His Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite, and Shiner affiliations were no secret, as he was a regular sight driving the Bucking Car in the Shiner Parade, his laughter as infectious as the joy he brought to those spectacles.
Married to Gail Sweatt, on July 3, 2020, in Robert Lee, TX, their union was a grand prix of love and laughter. Kim leaves behind a pit crew of family who will miss his light-hearted spirit: his wife Gail; his mother Linda Nunez; his sons Louie Sweatt II, Lee Carter and wife Calley, Lane Carter, Ves Slone, and Bryson Shirley; his daughter Kimberlee Hurt and husband John; his brother Brian Moore; his sister Keri Love; and his treasured granddaughter Leelah Sweatt, who undoubtedly was the turbo boost in his life. He also leaves behind the mother of Kimberlee and Louie, Pat Sweatt.
Kim's need for speed wasn't just metaphorical. He had a love affair with anything that could go from zero to sixty in the blink of an eye. Corvettes, Ferraris, and motorcycles weren't just modes of transportation; they were extensions of his own spirited soul. But it wasn't just about speed; it was about the thrill of life. He collected firearms, watches, and clocks, not because he was concerned with time ticking away, but because he cherished every moment.
Music was the soundtrack of Kim's life, and he was always ready to rock out at a concert. He was cool with being a dad, but if you wanted to see his face light up like the dashboard of a '67 Corvette, you just had to mention his role as PaPa. His granddaughter Leelah was the light in his life.
Kim cared about taking care of people. Kim had a heart as big as Texas itself, always making sure to take care of everyone, whether they were family, friends, or strangers in need of a smile. He lived life in the fast lane but knew when to slow down for the important moments.
He was a man who could turn a humdrum day into a rollicking adventure with just a twist of the throttle and a well-timed joke. As he takes his place in the great race in the sky, we can almost hear him chuckle, "I may have had to leave the party early, but I took the scenic route. Raise a glass to Kim—a man who knew that the best way to enjoy the race was not just to drive, but to ride it with laughter, love, and a touch of mischief. Kim Sweatt, you will be missed, but boy, what a ride it was.
A celebration of Kim’s life will be held at 2:00PM, Monday, April 1, 2024, at the Acres West Funeral Chapel. The family has requested in honor of Kim please wear bright colors or overalls to represent the bright life he led throughout the years.
