Hugh Koenig VIEW PROFILE

The City of Odessa Fire and Rescue lost one of its bravest. Hugh Albert Koenig II went to be with his Lord on Thursday, July 30, 2015.

Hugh was born to Hugh Albert Koenig and Barbara Williams on August 17, 1963, in Hobbs, New Mexico. He graduated from Permian High School in 1981. He attended Southwest Texas University and Texas Tech University before joining the Odessa Fire and Rescue. Hugh served for 30 years working through the ranks and achieving promotions to Engineer, Captain, Senior Captain, and recently Division Captain.

He married the love of his life and soul mate, Kay McAfee, in May of 1991. Hugh and Kay have two beautiful children, one son, Colby, and one daughter, Kelsey, and grandchild, Elena Rae, who he was extremely proud of and loved very much.

Hugh was a dedicated husband, father and firefighter. He enjoyed being outdoors, hunting and fishing with family and friends. He loved golf and relaxing at the lake. He spoke very highly of his superiors and respected them deeply. Many would say that Division Captain Koenig did not talk much; but when he did, he would have something to say, and everyone was quick to listen. He was respected by family, friends, and brothers in service and will be greatly missed by all.

He was preceded in death by Hugh Albert Koenig – Father; Dolph Koenig – Grandfather; Pauline Koenig – Grandmother; Vera Lee Medlin – Aunt; Dale White – Grandfather; Leigh Ann Reps – Sister, and Billy Stovall – Step-father.

He is survived by: Kay Koenig – Wife; Colby Koenig – Son; Kelsey Koenig – Daughter; Elena Rae Aguirre – Granddaughter; Barbara & Bob Williams – Mother/ Step-father; Doris & Ray Stewart – Grandmother/Grandfather; Nelson Reps – Nephew; Larry Ray "Sam" Smith – Cousin; Brandie Smith – Cousin; Rose Stovall – Step-mother; Josh Born – Step-brother; Brianna Stovall – Step-sister; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
