William Michael Hewitt


ODESSA-Family visitatin will be held for Mike Hewitt from 6 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, January 4, 2009, at Hubbard Kelly Funeral Home.  Services will be held at 3 p.m. on Monday, January 5 2009, at Hubbard-Kelly Chapel.  Burial will follow at Sunset Memoria Gardens. 

William Michael "Mike" Hewitt was born April 14, 1947, in San Diego, California.  He was the only son of of Margaret Louise "Lou" Hurst Hewitt and William Frasier "Bill" Hewitt.  He grew up in Odessa, TX, and attended both Odessa and Permain High Schools.

Mike has three sons, Nicky Lee, William "Little Bill", Jr., and Brent Hewitt, and a daughter, Jennifer Barton. 

He worked for over 35 years in the oilfield and related industries, finishing is career as a driller and tool pusher.  In later years, he was a small-business owner.  Mike was a hard worker with a talent for tuning a buck; a jack-of-all-trades.

He was the favorite brother of three lovig sisters, an affectionate father to his children.  The last fifiteen years of his life were spent with his soul mate, Susan, a woman he loved, chrished and adored until his last breath. 

Mike had a zest for life, a brilliant man who found joy in simple things.  He had a clever sense of humor, always good for a laugh.  He was an extrovert who never met a stranger. A plain spoken man who said what he meant and meant what he said; one we love dearly and shall never forget. 

Mike passed away form this world on January 2, 2009, surrounded by those gifted with the honor of sharing with him this life journey.  He will be missed by us all.  Together, we have loved, laughed, cried, sacrificed, and endured.  We would not change a thing.  See ya' soon, Mike!

He is survived by his wife, Susan Hewitt of Odessa; son, Nicky Hewitt of Post, TX; daughter, Jennifer M. Barton of Odessa; three sisters, Karaen Allen of Slidell, La.; Pat Hatchell of Plano, TX.; and Julie Compton and her husband, David of Fort Worth, TX.; nephews, Chantz and Collin Comptom; daughter-in-law, Jan Hewitt, two granddaughters, Branid and Kali Hewitt; a son by marriage, J. Wayne Graves,Sr; and a grand-son, J. Wayne Graves, Jr. of Tampa, Fla. 

He was preceded in death by his father and mother; his sons, "Little Bill" and Brent; and the mother of his sons, Glenda.
