Leona was married to Thomas Baxter and she was working in the banking department of a local bank in Lufkin, Texas.  She was on her way to work around 7 A.M. on December 18, 1980 when she was involved in an automobile accident at the inersection of Loop 287 and Pershing Drive in Lufkin.  She perished in the accident.  She was buried in the Garden of Memories Memorial Park in Lufkin.

Leona was a twin sister to Cleona.  I had known them at Bowie Junior High School in band.  Leona was quiet and a very kind and sweet person.   Her sister Cleona and I see each other every fall while we attend the OHS Home games in football.
