Karl Richard Moore, 78, passed away at a VA in house residential treatment facility in Dallas on Thursday, May 29, 2025. He had been there for the past three years following a second stroke.
Karl and his twin brother, Charles Rayford, were the middle sons of six sons born to Doris Clegg and Charles Richard Moore in Gainesville, Texas where his father was farming. The family moved to Odessa in 1955, and Karl attended Austin Elementary, Crockett Junior High and Odessa High School. He and twin brother both graduated in 1966 but were identified with the 1965 OHS class. In high school, Karl was in Distributive Education and worked alongside his mother at Furr’s Supermarket on the Andrews Highway in Odessa.
After graduation, he and his twin brother both joined the Air Force. Karl served in Florida as an Air Force Policeman and then served a year in Vietnam at the Phang Rang AFB. After separating from the Air Force in 1971, he became a lab tech with Dart Industries at the Complex in South Odessa. He worked there until Dart Industrie’s meager with Rexall. He then worked for Broadmoor Automotive in Odessa and then with AMOCO at the Midland Farms Gas Plant in south Andrews County Texas for 18 years. When the plant was shut down, he bought a water store in Odessa on North Dixie near E. University. He named the store “Karl’s Water Store.” He operated the store for 11 years and when he elected to retire, he sold the store to Richard Siler who retained the store name and continues to be in operation today.
Karl then moved to Weatherford, Texas and then to the Gordonville Community at Lake Texoma. In 2017, Karl suffered a stroke and then was moved to a VA in home care program in Fort Worth where he had nursing services to check on him.
Karl had one marriage with no children and was predeceased by his parents, his older brothers, John and Harold and his twin brother, Charles Rayford. He is survived by his brothers, Billy of Odessa and Loyd and wife of San Angelo. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Karl did not want a funeral and wanted to cremated. His brother, Billy, indicates that he is looking at a columbariam in a State Veteran's Cemetery in Abilene or posslbly Lubbock for his cremains.
