In Memory

Terry Derwood Shoemake

Terry D. Shoemake, 74, passed away on Thursday, May 6, 2021 in Odessa, TX.

Terry was born in Odessa in November 1946. He was preceded in death by his parents, Derwood and Hazel Shoemake, his brother, Gary Shoemake and his grandchild, Rachel Brown. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Mitzie Shoemake, his daughter, Nikki Brown and his two grandchildren, Rebecca and Zachariah Brown.

After completing Odessa High School in 1965, Terry attended mechanic school in El Paso and followed his natural passion for learning how things work. He served two years in the US Army as an airplane mechanic, and married his high school sweetheart, Mitzie Newman, in Hobbs, NM in 1968.

Terry worked as a mechanic until starting his own business in 1975. He had a natural talent for fixing anything mechanical. Terry also loved being outdoors and observing the wildlife of west Texas.

Together, Terry and Mitzie raised a daughter, ran their businesses, and in recent years, they have worked diligently to improve the lives of abused and abandoned dogs and cats. Terry will be sorely missed by his family and all those whose lives he touched.

At Terry’s request, there will be no formal funeral service. To honor Terry’s memory, the family encourages you to do your part to love and care for your pets as well as homeless animals. Charitable donations may be made in Terry’s name to America’s Vet Dogs/The Guide Dog Foundation in Smithtown NY (https://www.vetdogs.org).
