Danny Joe Waters

 

Joe Waters, age 76, Of Odessa, passed away on June 28, 2024, at his home in Odessa.

A Celebration of Life Memorial service will be held at Sunset Funeral Home on Tuesday, July 30, 2024, at 2:00 pm.

Joe was born in Lufkin, Texas. He was a retired educator, with 38 years of experience.

Joe is preceded in death by his parents, Willie Homer and Polly Thomas Waters, uncles and aunts.

Joe is survived by his wife, Jenny (Virginia) Waters; and sisters. Virginia Nilsson and Susan Walker; and many nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to the West Side Christian Church, 3501 W. 15th St., Odessa, TX 79763.

The family wishes to extend sincere thanks to Dr. Ramanathan, Dr. Kadir. Dr. Spellman. Russell Tippin, Kathy Rhodes, Jimmy Braswell, Home Hospice and ECISD.

Danny Joe Waters, a devoted educator and administrator with over 38 years service with the Ector County Independent School District, has passed away.  During his career, he served at principal at several elementary schools, including Murry Fly, Goliad and Carver Early Development Center and also taught and coached in Sweetwater, Texas.  A 1965 graduate of Odessa High School, Waters was a talented musician who enjoyed entertaining his staff and friends, Jim Curley and Jim Caddell also ECISD administsrators and Directors.  He also played in the OHS band.  He meet his sweethhearrt, Virginia (Jenny) Haney at Odessa High School, she was a 1965 graduate as well.  She was "his Sunshine"as he called her and they began their teaching careers together.  Waters was a kind, compassionate, and generous Christian man who treated his staff, parents, children and faculty as a beloved principal and admistrator will be greatly missed bv all who worked with him.  He was one of the "Good Guys"!!

Jana Hamilton (Judkins)

Joe Waters was my daughter's 6th's grade teacher.  She adored him. UNTIL the day they were studying how to dissect a pig! Somehow he got her through it and the adoration returned.
