Howard was a giant with a gentle soul. He was in Mr. Norred's home room all three years we were at OHS. Mr. Norred recognized Howard's good and kind spirit and called him Howie, after ensuring with Howard that it was okay. I think Howard was kinda proud that Mr. Norred thought that way of him.

Howard and we’re great friends throughout elementary school school years at Alamo Elementary. We played football under Coach Glass. He had great parents and I loved spending time with them. We lost touch after we went to Junior High. I heard that he went into the Air Force and moved beck to the Carolinas when he returned to civilian life. He really was a gentle giant and a great friend.

I remember Howard very well. He and I were friends and he was a really nice guy. I also went to elementary school at Alamo with him and played football together. I had no idea where he was living. I hope his family is doing ok. See you Howard.

John McCauley, Howard, Ted Van Meter, Bert Lane, Donnie Barlow, Dennis Wilson, Sandra Browning, Jack Davis, Anna Marie, Herbie Stokes, Barbara Moore, Janice Ireland - we were just a few of the hundred or so kids at Alamo who went to OHS. Some of us went to Bonham instead of Bowie. I knew very few kids when I got to Bonham, and it seemed even fewer at OHS. But I was following a sister and two brothers so a lot of teachers seemed to know the Clay name at both places.

Yep, Jane Clay - I was one of those Alamo/Bonham/OHS kids. Howard was a gentle soul!!!
