Guadalupe "Lupe" Xavier Mungia

 

Guadalupe “Lupe” Munguia, age 76, passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday, June 3, 2023. He was born in Corpus Christi, Texas to the late Geronimo Sr. and Dominga Munguia on December 19, 1946. Lupe was drafted into the United States Army in November, 1966 and served 2 years. Lupe served 1 year in the Vietnam War. Lupe was a proud United States Veteran. 

Lupe married Judie Lowery in July, 1965 and they were blessed with one son, Michael Munguia, October 1, 1967. Lupe loved cars, especially race cars. He raced cars for the better part of his life. He loved making them look good and loved even more making them go fast. He traveled many miles with his late brother Sonnie and many others to race at different tracks and events around the country. Lupe was the proud owner of Lupe’s Body Shop for over 45 years; the business that he started from scratch in a one car garage on Verde Street, and continued building for years. After a brief retirement, Lupe opened Workhorse Trailer where he continued to work until the end of his life. Lupe was not only known as a savvy businessman, but a kind, generous, and faithful friend, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He faithfully attended St Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church.

Lupe is survived by his son Michael Munguia of Midland, Tx, grandsons Mason Munguia and wife Lani of Fort Worth, Tx, Morgan Munguia of Midland, Tx, two great-grandchildren, Marlee of Fort Worth and Mylo of California. He is also Survived by his brother Butch Munguia and his wife Karen of Odessa and on sister, Margaret Flores of Odessa, one Aunt and many nieces, nephews and cousins whom he loved. 

Lupe is preceded in death by his mother and father, his two brothers, Sonnie Munguia and Richard Munguia.

Rosary will be recited on Tuesday, June 13, 2023 at 9:00 am. Memorial services will be held at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, 7601 North Grandview Ave, Odessa Texas on Tuesday, June 13, 2023 at 10:00 am.

This is a complete shock to me. Lupe and I go back a long way , his son Mike and my son played ball together, we did business together, laughed together and licked our wounds together. Great friend, great Dad, great Granddad, just an all aroung great guy. Will miss him the rest of my life!
