I grew up with David Phillips in Old North Ogden.  We were good friends.  His Dad was the Mayor of North Ogden for many years.  David and I were in the 6th grade at the Old North Ogden Elementary.  My Uncle Kirk Larsen was our teacher.  David would have his girfriend Ranae Johnson get the biggest dictionary we had in the classroom and have her slam it on top of his head at least once a day.  He would then let out a big laugh for all to hear.  Who would have thought these two would end up married to each other later on in life.  The hard slams must have made him fall head over heals for Ranae.  I'm sure anyone else in our class would remember that.   One day I saw David riding his bike up and down the street with smoke coming out the back.  I called him over and discovered he had wired a rain gutter drain pipe to the side of his bike, stuffed it with wadded up newspaper and lit it on fire.  I just had to have the same contraption on my bike and together we rode around North Ogden with smoke pouring out the back of our bikes.  If a kid tried that today he would be pulled over by the cops and have a citation written out and the cop would demand the drain pipe be removed ASAP.   Also, when the mosquito abatement truck would drive by in the evenings with mist coming out the back of the truck to kill the mosquitos in the town David and I would jump on our bikes and follow right behind the truck not realizing that the fog and mist were not too healthy for us to be breathing down into our lungs.  We thought that was great fun also.   David and I did lots of crazy things like that without any thoughts of the dangers.

Ranae, please accept my deepest and most sincere condolences and sympathies in the passing of your husband and my friend David.   I'm glad I got to know David and that he was part of my life growing up in Old North Ogden.
