1959 - 1998

Valerie Jayne Page Smalley, 39, of Twin Falls,returned to her Heavenly Father on Saturday, September 26, 1998, at Twin Falls Clinic and Hospital, of complications from a lifelong illness.

She was born February 25, 1959, to Jay G. and Norene Carter Page at Ogden, Utah.  She attended Ogden city schools and graduated from Ogden High School and Seminary.  She attended Weber State University.  On May 18, 1979, she married Jay W. Smalley, Jr. in Ogden.  They made their home in Ogden, Layton, and Twin Falls.  She and her family enjoyed traveling and camping together.  Much of her life was spent in hospitals and enduring severe pain from a congenital condition.  Throughout the years she has been courageous and patient.  She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.  She was a devoted and caring wife and mother who loved her family more than anything in life.  She was always known for her great compassion and kindness, and was genuinely concerned for everyone she met.  She had a tenderness and great love for animals.  Her hobbies included creative crafts, floral arrangement, cooking, gardening, game shows, organizing family activities, reunions, and her Raggedy Ann doll collection.  She was a PTA volunteer.

Survivors are her husband, Jay Smalley; two sons, Branden P. Smalley and Corey J. Smalley, both of Twin Falls; her parents of Ogden Utah; two sisters, Kathleen (Mark) Flygare of Farmington, Utah, and Shelly Child of Ogden; one brother; Lindsay C. (Denise) Page of Tucson, Arizona; her grandmother, Violet T. Carter of Layton, Utah; many uncles, aunts, cousins, nieces, and nephews; and her beloved little dog, "Peanuts".

The family would like to express graditude for the excellent and compassionate care given by Dr. Robert Lobb and the nursing sttaff of Twin Falls Clinic and Hospital ICU during her illness.

A funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, September 30, 1998, at the Twn Falls 5th Ward LDS Church, 421 Maurice St. N.  Friends may call from 9:00 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. at the church.  The service is under the direction of White Mortuary of Twin Falls.  Interment will be Thursday, October 1, 1998 at Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd., Ogden, Utah.
