
Louise Rebecca Larsen Gillespie Dowdy
1937 - 2004 OGDEN - Rebecca was born April 18, 1937, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Louise Silver and Donald S. Larsen. She died April 1, 2004. She grew up in Ogden, Utah, and attended Polk Elementary School, Central Junior High School, and Ogden High School. She was graduated from the University of Utah with a B. S. Degree in Education, a Business Administration Major and an English Minor. Rebecca married Horace (Gib) Gillespie in 1964. They were later divorced. She married James Dowdy in 1993. They were later divorced. She taught for the Ogden School District at Central Junior High School, Ben Lomond High School, and Ogden High School. She was chosen "Outstanding Young Educator" by the Ogden JC's in 1971. She was a legal secretary for the law firms of Lamph, Anderson, and Newey, Pete N. Vlahos, David Bert Havas, and Fredrick "Buck" Froerer. She was a secretary for the U.S. Forest Service. She also was a secretary for the U. S. Office of Naval Research, London, England. After an early retirement from teaching, she was an Education Specialist for the Defense Logistics Agency, and became a certified instructor for Information Mapping, Incorporated, Waltham, Massachusetts. Rebecca was a member of Delta Delta Delta women's fraternity, a member of the Junior League of Ogden, and a member and past director of the Eccles Community Art Center. She is an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Rebecca loved life and lived it to its fullest. She especially loved the outdoors and the mountains. She loved skiing, water-skiing, hiking, biking, and camping. She loved to travel and visited Hawaii many times. She loved especially the paradise islands of Tahiti, St. Lucia, Antigua, and Fiji. Rebecca is survived by her twin brother, James (Frankie) Larsen, her sister, Kathleen (Fredrick "Buck") Froerer, and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be Monday, April 5, 2004, at 11:00 a.m. at Leavitt's Mortuary, 836 36th Street, Ogden. Friends may call on Sunday, April 4, from 6 to 8 p.m. and also one hour prior to services at the mortuary. Interment, Salt Lake City Cemetery.
