Mary Janet Knowles

March 29, 1930 ~  March 24, 2013

Mary Janet Knowles “Granny Zilla” “went Home” March, 24, 2013 five days before her 83rd birthday. Born to Charles Rowland Knowles and Mary Matilda Ek March 29, 1930 in Reno Nevada. She is survived by her brother Charles Ernest Knowles (Pat), two nieces; Theresa Collins (Rick) and Heather Gutke (Dave), three nephews; Stuart Knowles (Ann), Chuck Knowles (Debbie) and Mike Knowles (Shauna) and her dear “Family”  at  Legacy  House in  Bountiful. “Honorary  grandma”

to seventeen grand nieces and nephews and seven greats who she adored! She was preceded in death by nephew Paul Knowles and brother Lawrence R. Knowles. A retired school teacher of math, science and type in Ogden City Schools for 38 years, Janet has delighted in meeting former students wherever she has gone! Her passion for humor, family history, reading, Jazz games, photography, computers and flying airplanes has allowed her to live large and cultivate joy! A graduate of Ogden High, class of ’48, Janet attended Weber College, Utah State and finally Colorado State where she received her Master’s Degree in business. But her greatest achievement was her capacity to love others and serve with her whole heart in many trusted church positions and among her beloved friends and staff at  Legacy House. A teacher to the end, her greatest concern was getting home from the hospital in time to teach her R.S. lesson. Well honey- you are HOME and you have taught us well! Oh how we will miss you!

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tues. March 26th at Lindquist’s Bountiful Mortuary 727 N. 400 E., where friends may visit family from 9:45-10:45 am. Our deepest gratitude to all who cared for her!
