In Memory

Lloyd Hogan

Lloyd Hogan

My Daughter made a gift to me of several pages out of my x-wife's (Jeanne Dabb) Scrap Book and she had a full page dedicated to Lloyd Hogan.  We were going through Jeanne's memories after her death a couple of months ago.  Evidently Jeanne dated Lloyd in 8th grade, I didn't know that.  She had a copy of Lloyd's Obituary, which I didn't have so I'm posting it here.

I will always remember the accident that took the life of our Classmate Lloyd Hogan, it was the first time I came face to face with the death of someone my age.  It was a shock to me and I still remember as I'm sure many of you do.  I wasn't close to Lloyd but of course I knew him and remember him from Mound Fort and the start of our High School years.  I don't have an obituary to post but I'm posting a Newspaper Article about the Accident.  I hope that Lloyd would be ok with this and of course I hope all who read this are ok with this posting.

Thanks to Lyn Dowdle Handley and of course her Mom for saving this article and for allowing me to post it!!

Thanks Dave for adding this profile. We all remember both Lloyd and Danny. May the rest in peace.

Thanks for posting the article, Dave. When Dan got out of the hospital some of us went up to see him and we walked around the neighborhood and ended up at Sherwood market where we found a can of spray paint and painted our names on the parking lot. A police officer came by and seen what we had done and arrested us for malicious mischief. He took us to the police station and we had to call Dan's mom and tell her what had happened. That was a little embarrassing, but it seemed like anytime I hung out with Danny very much we would end up in trouble. Maybe it was that law of attraction thing.

I have never forgoten the day of that accident that took one of my best friends.

We had cut school early and I was supposed to be in that car.  I got detained

and they took off without me.  Every time I visit Ogden I make it a point to drive

that golf course hill and say a prayer for Lloyd.  I will never forget playing

Danny Boy at his funeral.  52 years and think of it every time I hear that song.

I too remember so well the day of the accident.  Like so many others I had a hugh crush on Lloyd.   He really was the first friend I remember dying.  Now that we have lost so many classmates it still stands out because he was so young.  I too remember hauntingly the playing of "Oh Danny Boy" at the funeral.

Dave, this web site is so very special and I'm sure represents a lot of work.  It is very much appreciated.

I attended Lincoln Elementary with Lloyd, but at Lincoln we always called him Roland and I don't think that he went by the name of Lloyd until Mound Fort.   I still think of him as Roland.

Even at Lincoln, he and Danny Russell were best buddies and were always together.  They both lived on 7th street.

The day of his tragic death will always be etched in my mind much like the day of President's Kennedys death..  I knew of their accident on the curve and much later in the day I was with my mother at Fred M. Nyes and ran into Paulette Holms and she told me that Lloyd has just passed away.

At his viewing at Lindquists............I remember his beautiful sister Roberta standing next to his casket and trying to comfort all of friends who were so devastated.  La Dean was unconsolable and we were all so upset  that our young friend was gone.

We were all very happy and thankful when Danny was released from the hospital.

Love.

Gayle

Gayle is right, we knew Lloyd as Roland until about junior high; don't know why he changed it.  He and Danny were in my ward so I knew them from childhood.  Lloyd was the only son in the familiy of beautiful Hogan girls, so it really broke their parent's hearts.  And of course, I am sure it changed Danny ever after.   Lloyd was cute but the opposite of Danny who was verbal and funny and could coax anybody into mischief, don't you think?   I will lnever forget how we had to drive the canyon to pass driver's ed, and all I could think of was Lloyd.  So sad at such an early age.    Dean Sessions and probably a few others are lucky to be alive.       Nancy Stowe Kader
