Alan Walbridge

Alan Thomas Walbridge, 76, of Ventura, passed away at his home in Cabo San Lucas on October 24, 2023. He was born October 29, 1946 in Ventura, California and spent his later childhood years in Ojai. He graduated from Nordhoff High School in 1964, playing center on the varsity basketball team. He was a Master Councilor for the Ojai chapter of DeMolay. After high school, Alan was drafted, serving in Vietnam on a mortars platoon during the Tet Offensive. A photo of him from that time period was recently featured on the cover of a book about Vietnam titled, Sons of the Greatest Generation.

Alan served an apprenticeship and was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 952. He received an AA degree from Ventura Community College. He had an avocado orchard at his home in Ventura and for many years also helped farm his family’s orange orchard in Ojai. Alan traveled extensively visiting Europe, the Caribbean, Alaska, Hawaii and the South Pacific, as well as spending time at his second home in Mexico. He enjoyed deep sea fishing and in later years took a yearly trip on the Red Rooster, always returning with a catch for friends and family.

Alan is survived by his wife of 46 years, Dorothy Walbridge, daughter, Allison Marklein, grandchildren, Zane, Kaden, and Payton Marklein, sister and brother-in-law, Carol Walbridge and Gene Meyer, nIece and nephew, Hanna and Ben Meyer. Alan is also survived by 4 stepchildren and their families to include grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his daughter Nicole Walbridge, father Thomas Walbridge, mother Jean Barnes, and brother Dale Walbridge.

Interment is being planned at Arlington National Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association or the Wounded Warrior Project.
