In Memory

Roy Hoskin

Roy Hoskin

For anyone who does not yet know, dear Roy passed on this morning in the hospital. As anyone would know, he was a good man, and now he rests in sweet peace. We all miss him dearly. Anyone who knew him would know that he wouldn't want us to be sad..The final arrangements will take place at the Alabama National Cemetery in Montevallo, Alabama at approximately 1:50 P.M. on Monday, January 7th 2013.

Apparently a family member super-imposed Roy's pic into this pic from the memorial ceremony....awesome!!

To Roy's family,

As a classmate and teammate of Roy's while at Okemos High School, I came to admire him as hard worker and great competitor....and very much appreciated having him as a friend.  While our paths seldom crossed since we left the hallowed halls of our high school days, I will miss him nonetheless.  And, as a retired naval officer, I am greatful for his service to our nation.  And Roy, as a former Marine...a member of the sea service....the words of The Eternal Father, the Navy Hymn, seem appropriate:

Eternal Father, strong to save,
Whose arm hath bound the restless wave,
Who bidd'st the mighty ocean deep,
Its own appointed limits keep.

Oh hear us when we cry to Thee,
For those in peril on the sea!.

Eternal Father, lend Thy grace To
those with wings who fly thro' space,
Thro wind and storm, thro' sun and rain,
Oh bring them safely home again.

Oh Father, hear an humble prayer,
For those in peril in the air!

Oh Trinity of love and pow'r,
Our brethren shield in danger's hour,
From rock and tempest, fire and foe,
Protect them where so e'er they go.

Thus evermore shall rise to Thee
Glad hymns of praise from land and sea!   Amen.

To his family and friends, I extend my sincere condolences at Roy's passing.  May the memories of the good times you shared together be a source of solice and comfort now and in the future.

Sincerely,  John Shick
