My family moved from OKC to La Jolla, CA following my sophomore year where I reluctantly resumed my high school career with schoolmate Raquel (Tejada) Welch. After high school, I went to Dartmouth College where I graduated with a B.A. degree in ’63. After graduation, I returned to OKC and enrolled in the OU College of Law where I graduated from in June of ’66. After graduation, I moved to the San Francisco Bay Area for about 6 months before returning to OKC and going to work for the law firm of Watts, Looney, Nichols and Johnson. After a few years with this firm, I went to work for the OKC Municipal Counselor’s Office, then the Oklahoma Attorney General’s Office (G.T. Blankenship was AG). When Derryberry defeated Blankenship and they fired the office staff, I moved to Norman and became Counsel to the City.
I was married for 3 years during this time then, following a divorce and parting with the City of Norman, I moved to San Francisco in 1973 (then to, in order, Sausalito, Mill Valley, San Anselmo and Richmond. In California, I passed to bar exam and went to work in the City Attorney’s Office for the City of Richmond in 1974. Other than various leaves of absence for extended travel (Europe) (a trip around the world in 78-79 ) (and one year’s work for the State Court of Kosrae in the Federated States of Micronesia) I was with Richmond until I retired in 2000 in time for another trip around the world with some China time and trans Siberian train time). In ’79 got remarried and was blessed with daughter Callie. This marriage ended in 1996.
After retirement and lengthy travels, including return visits to Collioure, France, a long time friendship of more than 30 years since our days working with the City of Norman blossomed into a wonderful romance and in 2003 I married my long time friend and now partner and love of my life, Susan Webb (U.S. Grant, class of ’66). Susan had moved to Seattle in the early 1970s and so, in 2002, I moved to Seattle to be with Susan in the Great (drizzly) Northwest. It has been great and we are very happy! Life is (and has been) good!
I have ‘good intentions’ to do some more painting…with limited success. Susan does a better job! I have been jogging for close to 30 years and have run a few marathons and lots of half marathons. I’ve been running with a team of ‘super seniors’ for the last few years in the Ranier to Pacific relay race (that I’d like to quit doing but since 2 of the runners are in their 70’s, I feel guilty.) Through all the years, I still have very fond memories of my time and friends at Harding High! I hope that I can attend the reunion and renew those friendships!
