Mrs. Clarice Wiser was her mentor and friend, as well as Imogene Starkey.  Teaching at Harding was a major highlight of Jane's life.  Her resume also included work as a researcher and docent for the Oklahoma Historical Society, where she received a service award in 1972; and as a writing consultant for the OU Medical Center. Jane's concern for people, especially the elderly and the downtrodden, was far reaching.  She was a social worker in California and in Oklahoma, and a family therapist for Family and Children's Services Inc. in Tulsa. Jane's friends describe her as wildly popular in high school and a leader, someone others wanted to emulate.  Jane was an avid reader and possessed a large collection of great literature, including poetry.  Music also was a great passion.  She had a lifetime subscription to "Rolling Stone" magazine and an extensive music library.  She continually pursued learning opportunities and took pleasure in the arts, sports, current events and politics.  "The New Yorker" was another favorite magazine, and when asked what she'd like to eat, the No.6 from Johnnie's was the top of the list.  Jane grew up in Crown Heights Methodist Church and accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age.  Her faith continued to sustain her throughout her life.  She loved reading "The Daily Word."  She had a passion for life, her friends, family and causes.  Jane was a longtime resident of Encinitas, Calif., before returning to her childhood home in the Edgemere Park neighborhood in Oklahoma City. She was a member of the Junior League in Tulsa and Oklahoma City, serving at one time on its executive committee.  She also was a member of Possibilities, the World Wildlife Fund, the Nature Conservancy and the Southern Poverty Law Center.  She was a member of the Oklahoma City Museum of Art and a contributor to the Harn Homestead.  She also served as a board member and volunteer for the Salvation Army.  Jane also was friend of Bill W's.  The family would like to thank the nurses and staff at Manor Care Health Services in Midwest City for their kind, compassionate care of Jane, as well as the staff and volunteers of Heartland Hospice.  They also would like to thank the many friends who visited her, sent cards or called to check on her after her illnesses.  Memorial Services will be at 4 p.m. Tuesday, June 29, in the chapel at Mercer-Adams Funeral Service, 3925 N. Asbury.  In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial contribution to Mobile Meals of Oklahoma County, 5051 N Brookline, Suite 123, OKC, OK  73112; a charity of your choice or helping someone in need.
