Don G. Judge - Class Of 1951

Don G. Judge

Donald (Don) Gene Judge, 92, of Olney, IL went to be with his Lord & Savior on Friday, October 17, 2025 at Helia Arch in Olney, IL with family by his side.

Don was born on August 9, 1933 in DeWitt County, IL to Lincoln Judge & Sylvia (Gawthorp) Judge. Don married Evelyn Stremme in 1952, and 4 sons were born to that union. Evelyn preceded him in death in July 2009.

Because loneliness was a living thing in the house after Evelyn's passing, Don asked God to guide him to someone who could fill the void. Don married Sharon Jackson in February 2011. They had 14 wonderful years together.

Don graduated from Olney High School in 1951 and went to work in the oil field for 10 years, then Crackels Appliance Store for 7 years.

In 1961 Don started a 2-year course in industrial electronics and after completing that, a 1 1/2-year course in television and radio servicing. Both by mail from DeVry Technical Institute while working in the oil field.

Don went on to use that knowledge when he and Evelyn started their own business in 1966 repairing televisions and putting up antennas. They later added Alarm Systems and Central Vacuum installations. Don continued the business until he retired around 85 years of age.

Don was a long-time member of First Baptist Church in Olney, serving as Deacon and Sunday School teacher. He later transferred his membership to Freedom Baptist Church in Noble where he continued to teach as long as his health allowed.

Don served on the Olney Township Board for 9 years and the Richland County Board for 8 years. He served as Chairman on the Road & Bridge Committee and Sesquicentennial Committee to bury a time capsule. Don was the board chairman for 2 years during the 911 implementation. He was appointed as Ad Hoc Jail Committee Chairman, Board Laison to the Ambulance Service, Laison to the Emergency Telephone System Board, Embarras River Basin Agency and to the Public Building Commission.

Don served as Boy Scout Troop Leader when his own boys were enrolled in the program.

In 1994 Evelyn surprised Don with a lifelong dream trip to Australia. It was a major highlight of his life especially when one of their hosts informed them, they had just named a local attraction "Judges Mount Lookout".

Later in life, Don wrote several books about his life. He was an inspiration to many because of his faith in God and his work ethic.

Don was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Evelyn and brothers Eddie, Robert and Carrol Judge.

Don is survived by his wife Sharon (Jackson) Judge, sons Larry Judge of Olney, Jim Judge of Chicago, Mark (Linda) Judge of Olney and Bruce (Maggie) Judge of Indianapolis, IN, stepson Jonathan (Jennifer) Jackson, brother Richard (Violet) Judge, sister Elaine Culpepper, Sisters in law Juanita Judge, Phyllis Keen and Patricia Hout, several nieces & nephews, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Don will be sadly missed by all who knew him. The antenna man has made his last climb to his eternal home.

We love you, Don Judge!!
