Charles Laverne Bratton

Charles Laverne Bratton passed away at the age of 89 on August 23rd at his residence in Grand Villas senior living complex in Port Charlotte, Florida.

He was born in Wayne County, Illinois on November 10, 1935 to his parents, Alta Henson Bratton and Emil Bratton. He spent his younger years in Olney, Illinois. On November 27, 1957 he married his high school sweetheart, Mary Gayle Travers. They were married for 67 years before Gayle passed in 2024. Charles served in the United States Air Force on active duty and later as a reservist.

Charles graduated from Eastern Illinois at Charleston, Illinois in 1958. He achieved a Bachelor of Science in Education. He used his education to pursue financial computer system management at various companies. In the early 1970s he moved his family to Frankfort, Kentucky where he spent the balance of his career in state government. When he retired, he held the position of General Manager for the Kentucky Retirement System.

After retirement, Charles and Gayle moved to Punta Gorda, Florida in 1985. He is survived by his daughter Julia (Fred) Granger of Port Charlotte, one grandson Zachary (Lynsey) Granger of Punta Gorda and one great grandson Tripp Charles Granger also of Punta Gorda.
