
Bernard Eugene “Bernie” Thompson, 70, of Oak Harbor, Washington, died October 6, 1993 at his home. Memorial services were held October 8, 1993 at Burley Funeral Chapel in Oak Harbor with the Oak Harbor Elks Lodge No. 2362 officiating.
Bernard E. Thompson was born, September 11, 1923 in Farina (Clay County) Illinois to Lawrence and Edna M. (Gilley) Thompson. He served during World War II with the U.S. Navy, after which he worked with Civil Service, retiring January 19, 1979, as general foreman at Whidbey Island Naval Air Station after 37 years of service.
In past years, Mr. Thompson had been very active in the Oak Harbor Community. He was a past commander and lifetime member of the American Legion and a charter member of the Oak Harbor Elks Lodge No. 2362. He was well known as an avid fisherman.
He is survived by his wife, Evelyn of Oak Harbor; two sons, Tom Thompson of Bettendorf, IA and Noel Thompson of Springboro, OH; two daughters, Sherri VanSchaick of Mill Creek and Melissa Thompson of Edmonds; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by three brothers and one sister.
