Elton R. Wood - Class Of 1969

Elton R. Wood, 74, of Olney, IL, passed away June 12, 2025 at his residence surrounded by loved ones. Elton was born on December 21, 1950 in Olney, IL to parents, Alfred Wood and Leatha (Fryman) Wood. He married the love of his life, Kristina (Cunningham) Wood on June 30, 1973, she survives.

Elton proudly served his country in the US Army from 1971-1973 as a military police officer, which began his law enforcement career. He studied Criminal Justice at OCC and was a dedicated police officer for 27 years with the last ten years serving as the Chief of Police.

Elton’s greatest joy came from spending time with family, friends and his beloved dog, Murphy.

Elton is survived by his wife, Kristina Wood of Olney; son, Neil Wood of Olney; daughter, Jennifer Eaton and husband Wade of Newton; daughter, Gina Thomas and husband Jeremy of Olney; grandchildren, Dalton (Jessica) Wood, Daelyn Wood, Elly (Guiseppi) Coppotelli, Parker Eaton, and Kaden Thomas; great grandchildren, Andrew Wood and Giovanni Coppotelli; sister, Shirley Atwood of Olney; and several nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents.

Graveside service will be held on June 18, 2025 at 10:00 AM at Haven Hill Memorial Gardens with full military rites performed at the cemetery following the service.

Memorials can be made to Carle Richland Memorial Hospital Center for Philanthropy.

So sorry to hear this! Elton was a classmate of mine and the Chief of Police for Olney Illinois during the years I served on the City of Olney Council. Best of all he was a FRIEND!
