Nancy Rumsey Obituary
Nancy Rumsey, 77, of Olney, IL, passed away Thursday, November 13, 2025 at Carle Richland Memorial Hospital in Olney, IL.
Nancy was born March 26, 1948 in Olney, IL to parents, Frederick and Mildred (Robbins) Huchel. In 1964 Nancy married Harold Murbarger and together they had 3 children: Michelle, Melissa and Michael (Tug). Later she married Darce George Rumsey on December 18, 1993 in Olney, IL. George preceded her in death on July 31, 2019.
Nancy started out working at Hurn Lumber and then worked for General Telephone, but the majority of her career was spent at the Parkersburg Post Office as Postmaster (35 years).
Nancy was a community minded person who faithfully volunteered her service to her church and to the community. She was an active member of the Olney Southern Baptist Church. She served as mayor of Parkersburg and enjoyed working the cash checkout at the Parkersburg Chowder. Nancy also was a past president and member of the RMH Auxiliary.
People who knew Nancy knew that she had a passion for genealogy. She was an active member of the Find A Grave website and contributed nearly 3,000 memorials. Nancy used that information to keep the Tiger Alumni Memorials website updated.
If you really wanted to visit with Nancy, you could find her at Hovey's at 7 AM and HV's at 3 PM. She made 'coffee' into a verb, "coffee-ing". The only thing that kept her from coffee-ing was when her grandchildren were in town. The grandkids loved spending time with their 'Nam' and she loved spending time with them.
Nancy's home was always open to anyone, and it was full of love and laughter. Her sense of humor and smiling face will be greatly missed by those that were blessed enough to know her.
Nancy is survived by daughters, Michelle (Russ) Brooks, Melissa (Tom) Gamboe; Son, Michael "Tug" (Michelle Dowty) Murbarger; Stepsons Michael (Teri) Rumsey and Paul Rumsey; grandchildren, Ashli (Daniel) Messina, Ian Zumbahlen, Levi (MaryBeth DeCuyke) Weiler, Connor (Ashley Rapice) Court, Carson Gamboe, Kinsey (Jonathan) Armstrong; eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
