Nancy Ahlstrand (Franklin) VIEW PROFILE

Age 68 North Richland Hills, TX.

Nancy Franklin passed away Saturday, September 27, 2014. Nancy was born in Peoria, IL, to Or'Vill and Maxine Ahlstrand; she grew up an only child in Omaha, NE.

She participated in Rainbow Girls, and was a summer exchange student in Mexico. Nancy graduated from Benson High School and the University of Nebraska with a master's in education and French. Nancy was a teacher with the Omaha public schools and taught at Beveridge Junior High and Lewis & Clark Junior High before moving to Texas in 1981.  She worked as an administrative assistant for First National Bank of Fort Worth for a couple years, but returned to teaching at J.P. Elder Middle School and North Side High. After their son was born, she stayed home for a few years, then got a job at Harwood Junior High where she taught for 15 years. She was also an adjunct instructor at TCC for many years and especially loved her ESL students.

Nancy volunteered at First Baptist Euless in the ESL evening program and also enjoyed volunteering for Bible-training in Beach Clubs for children where she loved leading or witnessing children accept Jesus as Lord and Savior. Besides traveling to France twice, Canada, and Mexico as a summer exchange student in high school, she and her husband completed their bucket list of having visited all 50 states in 2012. Their mini-Schnauzers gave her great joy and comfort, but her passion was her love for learning and teaching.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Or'Vill and Maxine Ahlstrand. Survived by husband of 45 years, Vernon Franklin; son, John R. Franklin.
