John E. Jensen

May 11, 1945 - Oct 18, 2018

Age 73 of Omaha. John passed away surrounded by his family.  On hearing of his passing, it was said, "we have lost a warrior for public schools."

That was the essence of what drove John. He believed in public education as the equalizer for student success. He also spent decades as a champion for improved salaries and benefits for school employees. John began his teaching career at Benson High School as a science teacher. His true love was physics, often being called Mr. Wizard. He finished his 36 years storied career at South High as a curriculum specialist in Mathematics, Science and Technology.

Elected to numerous leadership positions in Omaha and the nation, John continued his tireless advocacy for students and teachers to the end of his life.

He is survived by his wife, Sandy; son, Scott; and daughters, Christine (Joshua) Rosenzweig, and Megan (Aaron) Cook; 5 grandchildren, niece, nephews, cousins, and friends.

A CELEBRATION OF JOHN'S LIFE will be November 17 at 2pm, held at Magnolia Hotel.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to OEA Foundation, John Jensen Scholarship, at 4202 S. 57th St, Omaha, NE 68117.
