Judith Wright

Wright, Judith S.

Celebrated OPS Art Educator Judith Wright concluded her struggle with Alzheimer's on February 3, 2023; that fierce, indomitable spirit finally silenced. Her bright trajectory began in 1933 during the Depression. From 1942 to 2019 she lived in Nebraska, and graduated from Bellevue H.S. in 1951. Winning a scholarship, she attended Nebraska Wesleyan University, becoming a cheerleader and a member of the Phi Mu sorority. Midway through her studies she married, and ultimately earned her Degree in Education from UNO. Two years before her 30-year retirement in 1992, she won the Nebraska Art Educator of the Year award. Remembered as a gifted, inspirational teacher, she tirelessly supported art education in Omaha, and in the lives of her children and grandchildren. Seeking artistic endeavor and fostering human connection made her happiest. Undoubtedly Judith's life made an impactful, loving difference.

Preceded in death by her parents, Edgar and Helen (Berndt) Larsen; her husband, Thomas L. Wright; and her sisters, Joan (Dean) Daniell, and Janet (Don) Haile. Surviving are daughters, Terryl (Jon) Hallquist, and Suzanne (Kevin) Nelson; grandchildren: Alexandra, Mackenzie and Drew Nelson, Carolynn (Otis) Hallbright, Ryan (Claudia) Hallquist; and great-granddaughter, Nora Jane Hallbright.

MEMORIAL SERVICE: July 29, at 1pm, followed by a Reception at the First Unitarian Universalist Church of Omaha.
