Helen Marie Patterson (Davis) received a Bachelor of Science degree from Prairie View A&M College in Hempstead, TX, and a master's degree in Education from the University of Nebraska, Omaha. Her professional career as an outstanding OPS educator and administrator spanned over 36 years.

Effectively achieving a work/life balance, Helen and former husband, Pat, reared two children, Gerry Alan and Tracii Yvette. For many years, Helen was also a surrogate mother to "daughter" Tracii Lenee Hicks.

Committed to serving her community, Helen sat on several non-profit governing boards and volunteered time and service to the Salvation Army, St. Martin De Parres Center, National Council of Negro Women, NAACP, Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, and Caring And Concerned Educators (CACE). Her volunteerism to the Urban League of Nebraska, specifically leadership in the Urban League Guild, was especially noteworthy and earned her Outstanding Leadership recognition and, in 1991, The Woman of the Year award.

Post retirement from Omaha Public Schools in 1993, Helen became a small business owner and successfully managed Kids-Go-Round, a children's consignment shop until 2006. She was a dedicated member of Clair Memorial United Methodist Church for over 40 years, serving on several key administrative committees.

Preceding her in death were her parents, David and Pearlie Green Davis; sisters, Aline Jones, LaRuth Hamilton, Cleo Raven, Pearl Williamson; brothers, David Davis, Lee Arnold David and Norman Davis; and daughter, Tracii Lenee Hicks. Left to lovingly remember her are her son, Gerry Patterson (Michelle), Texas; daughter, Tracii Patterson Hunter, Minneapolis; grandchildren Parey, Corbin Halen, Harris and Patterson, Minneapolis, and Arione Nelson, Omaha; sister, Velma Andrews, Fort Worth; dear friend, Yvonne Method-Walker, Omaha and many more.

MEMORIAL SERVICES for Helen Marie Davis Patterson will be held Saturday, March 24, 2018, 11am at Clair Memorial United Methodist Church, 5544 Ames Avenue. The church will host a repast immediately after the service where the family will receive friends who came to honor their mother, grandmother and sister.
