Kevin W. Dunn

7/8/1952 - 12/30/2017

Dunn, Kevin Walsh Age 65 "Life is a do-it-yourself kit." Famous words from a man who truly lived them, Kevin's battle with CJD came to an end on the afternoon of December 30, 2017, at his home surrounded by his loving family and friends.

Kevin Walsh Dunn, of La Vista, NE, was born to Dr. Dale Eugene Dunn and Rosemary C. Dunn, in Estherville, IA, on July 8, 1952. He loved growing up in a small town and always spoke of his time in Estherville with great fondness. He also enjoyed his family's regular trips to Okoboji. At age 10 he moved to Omaha with his family and attended St. Pius the X and then Creighton Prep for High School.

Kevin was an avid sportsman from early on, he was a groundbreaker in Omaha when it came to soccer. As a student at Creighton Prep, he was one of the founding members of the High School Club Soccer team. He also competed on the football and wrestling teams at Prep. He even showed his flair for school pride by participating in the Prep Cheerleading Squad with his brother Tim. Later, Kevin enjoyed playing intramural sports. He was an avid hockey and soccer player as well as a long-distance runner.

In recent years he enjoyed refereeing basketball and umpiring baseball. After attending Hastings College from 1970-1974, Kevin received a Bachelor's Degree in Science with a focus in Biology. He returned to Omaha where he taught science at Horace Mann/King Science Center and Nathan Hale.

Soon thereafter he met and fell in love with Christine Schneider; they married in 1977 and started a family. He, together with his wife Christine, raised six wonderful girls. Kevin went on to complete additional studies in Computer Science at UNO/Metrotech and he eventually embarked on a life-long career in IT and computer programming. Though, to all who knew him, he remained a "teacher" for the rest of his life.

Family and the Catholic faith were extremely important to Kevin. He was a kind, thoughtful, compassionate, loyal, principled man with a big heart who always made time to connect to the people in his life. His disease did not stop him from having fun and living life to the fullest. His final months were marked by reaching many personal milestones including: his wife's birthday, their 40th Wedding Anniversary, numerous road trips with his family, meeting his newborn grandson, Killian, and celebrating Thanksgiving and Christmas with his family and friends. He took his time to connect with each of us and to say "I love you," "Thank You" and "Goodbye."

Kevin is survived by his loving wife, Christine M. (Schneider) Dunn; daughters: Kaylea and husband Tyler Borman, Sarah and husband CJ Barone, Michaela, Regina and husband Peter Caffery, Andrea, and Elizabeth; grandchildren: Shane, Cody, Zander, Seamus, and Killian; brothers: John and wife Patty, Dan and wife Connie, Tim and wife Jeri, Gene and wife Susan, Mike and wife Mary, and Pat and wife Nancy; and sisters: Julieanne and husband David Herzog, Marybeth and husband Greg Cotterell, and Margee Dunn; many nieces and nephews. Kevin, "Irish," Dad — we love you! You are fearless and courageous. We are so proud of you and honored to be part of your legacy.
